Two years ago, my daughter brought home a bouquet of egg crate flowers in a recycled water bottle vase. In those two years, several bouquets of real flowers have come and gone from my desk, but the egg crate flowers sit as beautifully today as they did on day one.
Recycled art is a great way for everyone in the home to celebrate Earth Day. Here are a few ideas for your family to enjoy. After all, who doesn’t want flowers that will never wilt?
What you will need:
- egg carton tray
- pipe cleaner
- tissue paper
- paint or markers
- scissors
- water bottle with label removed
Option 1: Tissue paper
- Separate the egg carton tray into single cartons.
- Poke a hole in the bottom of each carton.
- Layer one square of tissue paper, a single egg carton and a second square of tissue paper together.
- Pull them together and twist the pipe cleaner to hold in place.
- Arrange your bouquet in a water bottle vase.
- Use paint or markers to decorate the vase.
Option 2: Painted flowers
- Separate the egg carton tray into single cartons.
- Use either paint or markers to color both the inside and outside of each carton.
- Poke a hole in the center and insert the pipe cleaner. Twist to hold in place.
- Arrange your bouquet in a water bottle vase.
- Use paint or markers to decorate the vase.
Combine the two ideas for the most colorful bouquet!
